Living in Los Angeles/Orange County, there is not a shortage of medicine and dispensaries available to patients, however; the quality and safety can be suspect.
The collective that sets themselves apart from the competition in Southern California is Cornerstone Research Collective located in Eagle Rock, California. CRC was the first research based Medical Marijuana Dispensary in the country and founded in 2007 by Michael Backes, a leading expert in Cannabis research and author of Cannabis Pharmacy.
Cornerstone is SATIVAisticated‘s Cannabis Connoisseurs’ choice for medication.
CRC is devoted to research and safety and those two intertwine with the genetic research of their strains, and testing for harmful containments such as molds, pesticides, fertilizers and insect damage.
CRC does a professional job with the genetics of their strains enabling them to inform their patients of lineage, terpene profile, and expected ‘side affects’. The terpene profile determines what effects the flower or concentrate will provide. For example, so called true Indicas are usually rich with Myrcene, which is known to be heavily sedative. Sativas are rich in other terpenes such as Limonen, which is also found in fruit rinds, are more cerebral and be used for focus or creativity.
Most dispensaries test for Cannabinoid levels to better sell their product, not for patient safety. Smoking does not destroy mold toxins. For people with compromised immune systems, this could pose serious health risks. Also, improperly flushed medicine could lead patients to smoke Ammonia, as a result of leftover fertilizers.
Their research enables them to provide strains you can’t find anywhere…ANYWHERE! An Indica I recently picked up was Affie, a potent Afghani landrace, one of the purest Indica Cannabis strains available and parent of LA Confidential. A newer Sativa on the menu is Marmalade, a cross between Pinchers Creek x Tangerine Dream; consisting of dense nugs, it simply crumbles into your bowl with the slightest of effort and smokes effortlessly to a beautiful white ash. Here is how CRC describes Marmalade “Effervescent and excitable mood lift. Couples active energy with creative waves of mild dissociation and sensory enhancement. Bright orange flavor with distinct notes of vanilla and mint.” According to CRC, the popular Sativa strain Green Crack’s lineage originated in Pinchers Creek, Canada and thus is called Pinchers Creek. Another Sativa dominant hybrid flower I picked up is named Four Cups, a cross between four Cannabis Cup winners Jack Herer x Sensi Star x Cherry AK x Blueberry. They also have Four Cups crossed with a Banana Kush, a cross of Four Cups and OG Kush, and another crossed with Master Kush Ultra.
While their flowers are a little more expensive than the ‘regular’ dispensaries, you can save money with their concentrates. A note about the selection, it is not wide but is QUALITY! Their wax selection currently offers two Rosins and an array of hash and kief. Currently, they have several forms of hashish with two that come in Temple Ball style. Their kief is the best around and while they do offer a strain specific version, they also will create a medley creating a unique entourage effect.
Lastly, CRC offers clean and tested Cannabis Extract Oil at great prices. Roughly $60 for THC Rick Simpson Oil and $65 for CBD dominant version of Cannabis Extract Oil offered at a couple of different ratios.
Another aspect that separates Cornerstone Research Collective from everybody else…they allow a patient to pick up the jars (be careful as they are glass) for a better, close up inspection and if you want to feel the density, they will give you a glove to pick up the flowers. Amazing! Who else does that? No-one!
When joining CRC, an initial appointment is required and are scheduled; no walk-ins. They will ask you what serious medical condition you are treating with Cannabis, all you have to say is that you want clean medication. They are also Prop D compliant and close early several days a week due to a kids Karate Studio a couple of doors down. So please be a good patient when in the neighborhood and have they do have a parking lot, please use it.
I was hesitant to post this but they have recently joined Weedmaps and so the word…soon will be out.
