Kermit Ruffins
“I only need two things to have a good show. Good people and Marijuana.” - Kermit Ruffins
All Aboard! That’s right because a Kermit Ruffins show is a freight train of New Orleans Jazz, as he is the undisputed King of New Orleans. My first time seeing the man in person is something that will always stick with me. Before he played at Kermit’s Music Club at 1533 St. Phillips Street during Jazz Fest 2002, Kermit and I sat outside on the patio and smoked a fat joint filled with great Cali weed. He is always happy to get some of the great Cali Green.
And then it was his turn to take the stage. Still in the afternoon, Kermit takes the stage and does his thing…till we all stand up, march and party around the block to only come back to our original spots.
And then it was time for me to high tail it out of there before it got too dark. One thing about New Orleans, always have to be careful to where you are.
And then the time the Mrs. and I hung out with him after he filled in at Donna’s on a Monday night, and we ended the evening by eating chicken wings right off the hot grill that was in the back of Kermit’s truck.
And it has been a love affair ever since…
