Ardent Cannabis Introduces Nova FX

Decarboxylation is the removal or elimination of a carboxyl (group) COOH, an organic acid, from a molecule.Merriam-Webster Dictionary

The presence of the acid group on Cannabinoid molecules inhibit them from interacting with the Endocannabinoid Receptors, making them non-intoxicating. It also makes them water-soluble, allowing them to flow through the bodily differently than activated Cannabinoids. Research shows different Cannabinoid Acids provide therapeutic relief for many conditions, though to reach the full potential of Medical Cannabis, the removal of the acid group while maintaining the Cannabinoid and terpene profile is the most preferred.

All methods of decarboxylation (oven, crock pot, lighter) lead to loss of Cannabinoids and terpenes, until the Ardent Cannabis Nova Precision Decarboxylator and now the Nova FX.

Borrowed from Ardent Cannabis

After several years in development, Ardent Cannabis is introducing the Nova FX. The Nova FX is larger and smarter with more features providing patients, professionals and cannasseurs the ability to decarboxylate, infuse, bake...and more!

The Nova FX is much larger than the Nova, almost four times as a matter of fact, making it perfect for large batches. The Ardent FX features dual sensors, a thermal heating core, and a stainless steel inner container. Besides the size of the Nova FX, the real difference is the smarter settings. While activation is still simple, it now takes a couple of button pushes to start. By pressing the M button, you select one of its four settings which are decarb THC, decarb CBD, infuse and bake, then press the "On" button.

The Nova FX sits on a power base and is removed for easy dishwasher-safe clean up.

THC and CBD Cannabinoid Selector

The Ardent Cannabis Nova FX provides the user with the option to choose which Cannabinoid to convert, CBDA into CBD, CBGA to CBG or THCA into THC. The THC/CBG cycle (A1) activates at a top temperature of 220 degrees fahrenheit, while the CBD cycle (A2) is at a slightly higher temperature and a little longer in duration. Besides THC and CBD, the Nova FX can also activate CBG and other Cannabinoids; Ardent Cannabis has testing results for CBGA converting to CBG.

A good question was raised in the comments below, "if I have a Cannabis strain of 1:1 CBD:THC, which setting should I use?" The answer is the THC setting because with a significant amount of THC, the CBD will activate. The CBD setting is for Cannabis strains with real high CBD content and very low THC and hemp flower CBD. For all three Cannabinoids, the weight of the Carboxylic Acid group is roughly 13% of the molecule.

Are you wondering why the settings to activate the Cannabinoids are A1 and A2? It is for discretion.

Infusion Cycle

An incredible discovery after the release of the original Nova was its ability to infuse oils, butters and even milks. Running decarboxylated Cannabis mixed with oils or butters through a second cycle of the Ardent Cannabis Nova provides an efficient infusion of the Cannabis. After further testing, results showed that infusions of 45 minutes, 1 hour or 2 hour provide almost identical infusion rates in the original Nova Decarboxylator. Being a multi-tool heater, Ardent Cannabis programmed the infusion cycle to run nearly 3 hours long at a peak temperature of 176 degrees fahrenheit for more flexibility. You can end the infusion cycle at any time by pressing down on the On/Off button till it turns green.

The Nova FX is so simple to use, the infusion process can happen directly inside the Nova FX or you can use a small container such as an Ardent Cannabis silicone sleeve developed for the Nova or a Ball glass jar.

The infusion cycle is also good to heat up or melt food, making the Nova FX an even more valuable kitchen appliance.

Bake Cycle
Cloud Cakes, edibles-to-go by Ardent Cannabis

Another incredible capability of the Nova is to bake. With this discovery, Ardent Cannabis was inspired by "edibles-on-the-go" to develop Cloud Cakes, an easy almost-instant edible kit that makes Cloud Cakes. The kit comes with a powder mix and MCT oil. The recipe is as simple as adding Cloud Cake mix, water, MCT oil and decarbed Cannabis flower or concentrate or both into a provided cup, insert cup into the Nova and viola...Cloud Cakes. Lecithin has been added to the mix to increase bioavailability.

The bake cycle is just over 2 hours with a peak temperature of little over 300 degrees. Just like infusing straight inside the Nova FX, you can bake directly inside and Ardent Cannabis demonstrated baking banana bread using the Nova FX. They sprayed the inside of the Nova FX silver canister with non-stick spray and added the ingredients for banana bread. You can find that and more at their facebook group Ardent You Glad You Can Decarb?

Melt Cycle

To clarify, there is no individual melt cycle. The melt cycle is a short infusion cycle (operator stopped), enough to melt butters and chocolates. It is another way to utilize the Nova FX with other foods in the kitchen. Ardent Cannabis says, the Nova FX is an all-in-one activation, infusion, melting, and baking appliance requiring no prior Cannabis, cooking, or baking experience to use.

  1. Nova FX has a setting for THC and a setting for CBD because of different temperatures for THC and CBD. So what about CBG, CBN, THCV, CBC what happens to these cannabinols

    1. Thank you for the question.

Interesting enough, Ardent Cannabis just released tests regarding CBGA and CBG using the Nova Decarboxylator that has only one setting, the one for THC. They were able to get full decarb of CBGA to CBG in the Nova.

There is no tests regarding other Cannabinoids at this point. But I am now seeing CBGA flower in retail dispensaries, but very limited at this point. On that note, I’ve seen flower rich in THCVA, CBN (CBN does not have an acidic form) and CBCA but their time is …

Hope you are surviving the quarantine!

      Cheers,
      Eric

  2. Daaammmnnnn, I wish I hadn’t bought this Nova in January😣

This new FX is just what I needed! I make larger batches which means multiple cycles ran to decarb enough to run my infusion cycle in my butter infuser.

But it’s good to know there is something new out there that can handle a larger supply!!

So sorry, I know how that feels. But the upside is, now you know that there is an upgrade that will make your life even easier when the time is right…maybe after the Federal COVID check(s) arrive.

And FYI, the Nova can be used as a food warmer too…so I have been thinking about bringing it to work to warm up food because I don’t use microwaves. And getting fast-food during this time doesn’t seem like the smartest move either.

      Cheers,
      Eric

  3. So I think I am confused on the FX model. If I am using a 1:1 chemovar, does that mean I would have to push the THC button and the CBD button? Thanks Eric

    1. Great question. Assuming the cycles for THC on the Nova FX are identical (I will double check on this) to the Nova, testing shows that you will want to use the THC cycle. Testing showed that with a decent quantity of THC, the CBD would fully activate. It was strains where the THC was very minor that the CBD material would need to be run twice through the Ardent.

Now that hemp flower is becoming a thing, this CBD setting will be perfect.

  4. Do as the Ardent nova Fx work in the USA, cause I got the nova and the voltage does not work here. I want to buy the fx nut insure if it works in the states

    1. Author

      Hello-

Yes, the Nova FX operates on 115V AC, meaning it works in the USA. The regular Nova comes in two versions, one that accepts 115V AC and another that accepts 230V AC - they should have different looking plugs. The United States runs on 115V AC electrical power for regular applications and pretty much the rest of the world uses 230V AC.

Don’t forget to use discount code Sativa30 to save $30 on your Nova FX.

  5. I come from a family line of growers that had to mcgiver everything..starting late 80s ending in late 1995.. so things are different to say the least. I was cutting edge. that was back in 1990,s now the technologies have surpassed my own understanding.. what I’m looking for is a Nova Ardent Decarb to purchase? it seems as if you have a bunch of customers that are trying to upgrade to the FX. i just need a Decarb machine period. so im offering to buy someone’s Nova Ardent Decarb.that doesn’t use theirs or wants to upgrade. Or just needs money do these things loose any heating aspects over time? More or less like a light bulb uses up its wavelengths..Steer me in the right direction please..

  6. Matthew Walters from June 15, 2020, you should hook up with Dino from March 23, 2020…. he wants to upgrade!

  7. I have the FX and honestly it’s great. BUT I just started a decarb cycle and didn’t realize that I started the A2 instead of the A1 for thc. I’m hoping that since it was only about 20 minutes it didn’t effect much
Also when you mentioned running it through a second cycle, does that mean you just run the already decarbed flower through the oil 2x’s? Bc I’ve just been doing a second smaller infusion with the strained herb.

    1. Hello-

Thank you for the question. That is the first time I have been asked that and not sure. Not exactly sure, the worst I can see is that the sample might have a little CBN, which is what happens to THC after degradation and age. Also, hopefully you are aware that you can press the power button till it turns back to green.

In regards to infusing, run the Cannabis material once through the Nova FX to activate and then, you add the activated Cannabis and your infusing oil together for a second cycle to infuse. Ardent has found that the oil will protect the activated Cannabinoids from further degradation.

Let me know if I have answered your questions.

      Cheers,
      Eric
